[DD1] Echoes and Droplets

Aranka studied the change in the cavern floor intently. Thick mosses of all shades of green were the typical ground cover on the first level of the dungeon, but the moss here had grown thin and patchy. Instead, water covered the ground. Without the greenery to hide it, she could see intricately laid stonework that some long dead souls had planned and placed. Her golden eyes traced repeating patterns until the layer of moisture covering all the bricks deepened into puddles and further into a flooded pond.

With careful steps, Aranka proceeded into the water. Her passage stirred up fine silt, but not nearly as much as she had expected. The water was devoid of life as far as she could tell. No fish darted here and there. No shelled creatures scuttled or gathered. Only the silt raised by her movement.

Reassured that nothing was about to nip at her ankles or trip her up, Aranka raised her attention to the architecture of the space. All the stone here was worked, with multiple archways stretching ahead and decorated walls all along their sides. The unmistakable figures of Coursers dominated the artwork here. The carved horses frolicked and bounded with apparent delight.

Aranka allowed herself a victorious grin.

She had heard another dungeon diver, Lucent, speaking of this place and wanted to see it for herself. Lucent had been happy to provide directions for Aranka to follow. They were... slightly hazy directions. Lucent seemed to wander the dungeons as if they were a leaf floating down a stream. No sense of urgency. She was glad to have made it, despite the winding path here. Clearly this place was something left over from ages long past, like so many spaces within the dungeon, but it was one that was beautiful and still.

“I think it was a… hmm… a reservoir of some kind,” Lucent had said quietly when they spoke of the place, “somewhere for keeping water stored. The way in is through a cracked wall, so most of the water has long since drained.”

Their strange eyes, dark and light at the same time, had sparkled at the memory of the place, though.

“It is still very beautiful.” They said finally before drifting away.

Alone in the dungeon, seeing the place for herself now, Aranka had to agree.

“A lovely place,” She murmured aloud, “I shall have to come back here!”
