Smoke filled a darkened cobblestone hallway, doorways leading to warm forges and lanterns of dim flame flying by as the young mare continued pacing on with a new companion at her side.  

"Why do you delve? What drives your heart in exploring the world beneath? What purpose do you seek?", the stallion had inclined. He was the peak of physical perfection, a knight in all counts but by name. She had conversated him, taken his lordship aside while they sought refuge in a meal of rations. 

She had no answer. She couldn't bring herself to account for the devestating loss she had now internalized, let alone atone for the fact that the only reason she searched was because she was lost and alone. She had her osprey by her side, Sheepstealer, being named for his tendency to theive wool from the sheep of the realm. A relic of the love of her queen, as well as a reminder of the tear in her soul. A reminder that made the sting of loneliness ache tenfold.

She later learnt her mercenary's name was "Terrence the Ace", she had hired him as she passed between the realms of the world beneath.  He was some sort of up and coming hero, though he was no stranger to arrogance nor pride. Reina found him brash, uncomfortable to be around, but he was a good guide for her first delve into the Earthen Furnace. He at least made sure she didn't stumble into any further shadows or creatures of the flame. 

His confidence helped quench her fear's thirst for control. She was able to reflect and learn, not just trip in the darkness like a newborn foal. His guidance and companionship aided her in her answer.

She turned to glance at the mercenary, acknowledging him and beckoning him to pause. He complied without question.

"I delve to find the meaning in what disasters life has thrust upon my kin and their legacy. To learn what crumbles an empire. To learn what it takes to lead, and be successful at it.", she said, with a growing confidence. She turned forwards, warm light beginning to crest at the end of the cobblestone hallway.

Princess Reina Raymere took a step forward, and lead for the first time.
