The chattering jars belch clouds of dust that sting his eyes. With a cough and shake of his head he considered shattering them for the sake of it like he’d originally intended. The cacophony of their voices combined with the clamoring of ceramic lids already began to give Lurch a headache. Clearly there was no treasure here, nor had there ever been, but this was the risk you took exploring new depths in the dungeons.

Lurch pawed at the ground in irritation.

“I can see why your Wizard left you here," but there was no true bite in his tone. Their presence here, so deliberately placed at the end of this torch lit corridor signaled to him a fool’s errand. A mediocre prank executed by an equally mediocre wizard in hopes to mislead plunderers away from any real treasures. Or perhaps he was reading too much into it. Either way Lurch felt something akin to pity for them.

“What do you hunger for…?” He hazarded.

Again all at once they spoke, this time with even more excitement and desperation.

“Oh thank you, thank you so much!” At last one voice cut through all the others to speak for them. This pot seemed exceedingly old, with visible cracks and chips in its finish. “A meager 100 coin would suffice, surely you could spare 100 coin, oh strong and capable Courser?”

Now certainly, Lurch felt his tail being pulled. A wizard’s prank seemed more likely to be a wizard’s tax. Even if he could spare 100 coin, what was stopping him from simply walking away? So, he did.

“W-w-wait, hey!! Aren’t you going to help us?” The old pot hopped forwards after him.

“I promised nothing,” he halts finally, turning back, “and I won’t be scammed by a bunch of - whatever you are.” Even after a snort of finality, Lurch felt guilt. Hanging his head in defeat, he doubles back. In truth, he did not have much himself and the coin he did have he clung to fiercely.

“50 coin.” And from the pouch slung across his haunches, Lurch procures the 50 coin and drops it in their waiting mouths. His quest for treasure would have to continue another day, with sleeping hours fast approaching. Finally he departs - their expressions of gratitude only increased his discomfort with the situation. Lurch was no benefactor or benevolent being - but he did believe that actions could be felt and observed by the dungeons, even if he did not fully understand how.
