‘Twas the first venture down, not far down in the depths,
Of a cavern verdant with moss dotting the steps,
When a chamber they came to, for treasure they search
When the two instead find clay pots left in a lurch!
“I hunger!” said one, then the other ones chimed in,
Lids whine loudly, making a cacophonous din!
I observed the clatter, with an air so amused,
But my companion, meanwhile, was very bemused:
“Enough!” shouted Thales, "You are hurting my ears!
Tell me what you eat,” said Thales, to sudden cheers.
They glanced at me desperately, seeking my aid.
An idea came to me, of making a trade.
“We will feed you,” I announced, much to alls’ relief.
“If you tell us of treasure, we’ll give you a leaf!”
Immediate pandemonium, then stillness,
The pots had conferred on this, ceasing their shrillness.
The largest clay pot, it spoke up with a voice deep,
“Give us each a green leaf, or the treasure we’ll keep!”
Us two adventurers gathered leaves one by one,
Time stretched as we looked around, until it was done.
Thales wondered how pots tell color without eyes,
While I said instead focus on the future prize.
Wizard’s treasure, I thought, with a feeling of glee,
Why did it matter how the clay managed to see?
My partner, they grumbled, but gave in at my word.
The chamber we re-entered, and those clay pots they stirred.
Each hungry maw we feed, from the big to the small,
Until we fed every single one of them all.
At last, the task finished, we awaited reward.
The pots shuffled place, hopping from where they were stored,
Revealing a new door behind where they’d been placed!
Thales and I walked forward, or more like we raced.
Towards the sight of gold shine, we could not resist.
I gathered the coins, Thales did best to assist.
Now, our journey was complete, so upwards we go,
Though soon enough, we both will go back down below.
