[DD1] Creed: Of Knowing Versus Understanding
The echo of hooves, one set more than intended, mark my return to this place that made me. I had always known myself to inevitably find my back. My childhood was not far behind me, but the call of the depths never ceased for me. Not since I was removed from them. Even now, they still call me further into the deep.
My companion mutters under their breath, constantly seeking out the reasons why this place is. It is the way of Thales, to search for why. Thales is indisputably a being of logic. Indeed, that is what Thales would say their role is, to apply logic to an illogical place. Nothing is beyond being understood, in their opinion.
What my role happens to be is similar, yet not at all alike. I do not seek an understanding, I never have, anywhere. One does not need to understand, to know. Thales is cunning in their approach to the dungeon, while I am wise to the ways of the workings. This knowing is easier when not forcing any sort of sense upon this place.
Thales may analyze everything. I think we live in a world that defies analysis, so I take things as they are. Yet, confused as we are by the other’s methods, we each see about an equal amount, but what we see is different due to our varied approach to the world.
Perhaps, that is what makes us potentially well-suited to be partners. Only time will tell if this is the truth, Thales would say, for it is nonsense to come to a conclusion so early on. But I feel it in the musty air as the truth. That is how I know it to be true.
