[DD1] where
The pyramid was in the way of his path. It must have appeared here since he had come through last, because Morfyn was certain that this was the way back home. If the halls look a little different, the walls straighter, that giant stepped stones in front of him new, then that surely must just be the way of the dungeon.
A wide step spread out ahead, and Morfyn stooped to press his nose to the stone, letting Mire wobble up his muzzle. Mire was cool and slick, sliding over Morfyn's cheek, and into his hair. Trotting forward, suddenly the ground seemed to shake beneath him. Vibrating in time with the voice that boomed toward him.
"LITTLE COURSER."
Little?
Looking upward, the stone had cracked, peeled open, in the shape of a vast, gaping mouth. It tilted in a kind of smile, cavernous black the only thing Morfyn could see within it.
"Where is your knight?"
Morfyn waited… for the rest of the sentence. Or the explanatory notes that would follow, glancing over his shoulder to see if maybe there was someone else behind him for which that question would make more sense.
"Uh, I don't have one…" Morfyn answered slowly. He did not particularly think he needed one but.
Again, he waited, to see if the stone would find that answer satisfactory, if there was more to the encounter, to the question. It did not answer.
"Well, it was good to meet you," the politeness impressed into him by his mother found even in the strangest of moments. "I'm just going to go the long way around…"
As you climb what you believed to be a step pyramid, a voice booms out to you, shaking the stone beneath you: “LITTLE COURSER.” You realize you are standing on a pair of knees, and above you, a benevolent face in the rock appears to smile. He asks you a question you don’t exactly understand: “WHERE IS YOUR KNIGHT?”
