[DD1] Yellowbelly in the pit
Racing through the dungeon in his haste to catch his prey, Yellowbelly stumbled. He staggered and clicked a short series of curse words. His hooves caught solid stone. He was back onto solid ground in time with his own echolocating clicks. No time to waste- he sped up again, clicks becoming excited screams as they caught a wriggle dead ahead. He always felt the happiest when he was giving chase. It was fun to hunt in the narrow passageways- especially when he was hunting wandering vines. A hunt for food that could move was always more exciting than a hunt for dead things. His whiskers twitched as he sped up.
It was fun, until the dungeon decided to betray him.
Yellowbelly, a Cavedweller very much lost in the thrill of the hunt, did not notice the gap before him until it was too late. The ground disappeared below his hooves in seconds. He screamed and clicked as he fell forward but nothing appeared in his view to hold on to. What did appear was rows and rows of sharp spikes and dirt and a hollow emptiness right before his nose.
Then he fell over the edge.
Angling his body right, Yellowbelly coughed as he slammed into one of those spikes belly first. When he hit the one below it, the force of the blow sent all the rest of his breaths right out of his body. Stars danced in his non-existent vision as he carefully slid further upon it with a defeated grunt. He lay there for a beat, staring up at the gap above him, muttering a few curses. A click down scared him- empty hollowness, nothing else.
‘When I get out of here, I’m going to hunt the one who dug this to bite them.’ Yellowbelly decided. He hissed another curse. Getting out of this one was going to be an absolute hassle. But he was going to try. ‘I’ll bite them very hard.’
Right as he tried to move- a voice called from above. Then another. Strangers. He hissed a warning, and saw something move above him.
“Oh dang, it’s Yellowbelly.”
