According to Vynak, their employer, the charm was showing that they were getting closer to where the target was. Raphael was clas to here it though he found that curious. The had lost about six hours in trail.

"You're wondering why we can still find them?" Goud asked.

"Yes," Raphael admitted.

"It is very likely that they camped at some point in-between or the other reason is that it is likely that we are above them," Goud explained.

"Oh I see, I wonder which it is?"

"Perhaps Nathaniel sensed when I was near and stopped and waited for me?" Vynak offered.

Raphael considered all of these possibilities and he had to acknowledge that their was some truth to it. 

They came to a narrow corridor and were suddenly being heckled by a crowd of imps.

"Ugly Courser!"

"Your Mother was a swine!!"

Raphael frowned at them.

"What should we do about these?" Ian asked, "It is a pity they are so hostile. I think they would make good companions."

"I think it's best to just ignore them," Raphael decided, "If they attack us, then we act."

"I agree with that," Vynak said, "If they had a mind to fight, they would have started by now."

It seemed that the imps were all talk and no action just as they predicted; they even shied away when the two hounds barked them. 

They managed to pass through the area without further trouble.
