[DD1] [Khatuna] 2. Hunger
"Ya look mighty under prepared? Did you bring anything with you? Tools? Food?" Everard asked, the mention of food brought Khatuna's mind away from questions and instead focused in on herself. Her body felt light and empty. When was the last time she had eaten? She couldn't remember.
"No," was the only answer Khatuna could give. Everard's expression was a mix of confusion, concern and something else, a complete bafflement that someone could make such an odd decision.
"Alright, when we reach the next cavern we're going to take a break and I'm going to give you some food, okay?" Khatuna didn't answer him they kept walking, "We're near the exit but I'm not about to have you keep going on with an empty belly, just in case."
"Just in case?" Khatuna looked confused.
"The dungeons can be odd at times. They don't always stay in one place. The caverns aren't usually too bad but times are changing." Everard finally stopped and opened a saddle bag at his side, "Go on take something from the bag." Khatuna daintily lifted an apple from the bag and began to eat. It felt like this was the first time she had ever eaten, the taste was unlike anything she had ever tasted before, which so far had been stale air, smoke and ash from the furnace. The sweet juice made her crave more. Without asking she dipped her head into the bag again pulling out another, Everard did not scold her, he didn't say anything as he watched her eat. It wasn't until that she was completely done that he spoke up again. "I won't say if, it's very rare someone your age doesn't come back to the dungeons, so when you do come back I would recommend you get one of these bags and fill it up with food. That way you won't be stuck starving. The Overgrown Caverns sometimes has places you can graze as do the Moors but don't trust it to always have what you need."
"I understand, thank you Everard."
