Into the Furnace

“So what your saying is down below is this crazy hot like lava place?” Wulfe perked his ears expectantly at his guide.

His guide, Phoebe, nodded. “Yes, the mossy caverns are just the first of what one may call the ‘surface’ of the dungeon. Once we manage to make our way through it we’ll find the lava caverns below; forewarning it's very hot.”

“Hmm”

The two carried on in silence for a while with only the sounds of their hooves echoing along the walls. Wulfe gave a glance Phoebe’s way and opened his mouth to speak, but then shut it and continued. He’d found out real quick this female wasn’t all that happy with his flirting. He had a sore shoulder as a reminder. He gave a muffled laughing huff at the reminder of her shoving him when he got a little….too flirty.

They approached a familiar room to Wulfe. He’d been here plenty of times and wasn’t the least bit surprised when spirits appeared next to him. He simply gave them a slightly curious but mostly disinterested look over. The main thing about these ghosts that caught his eye was always what would appear. Mostly humans with the normal sigils of two coursers, but sometimes other humanoid species would appear. There! A dwarf wandered about the sigil of a maned goat on his chest, hauling an ax behind him that looked like it should topple him over.  Wulfe gave a chuckle at it. Another caught his eye this one- Wulfe squinted at it.

“An Orc, temperamental brutes” Phoebe suddenly announced.

Wulfe blinked at her for a moment not expecting her to notice his interest, much less comment on any of the spirits. “Uh oh cool.” he stumbled.

Phoebe gave him an amused smirk and motioned them onward. “We’ll be getting there soon so be prepared; just beyond these tunnels a bit.”

“Huh, I’ve been this way a lot and never knew the way was this close.” His tone held a mild note of skepticism and the look Phoebe shot his way was not unnoticed. Wulfe didn’t care though.

“Yes,” she growled through her teeth. She gave him one more glare and started forward again not caring if the rude idiot kept up.

Wulfe rolled his eyes following after her. The temperature slowly grew warmer till sweat slicked his hide. She wasn't kidding about the heat, sheesh. The slowly narrowing tunnel suddenly opened up and orange blinded him.

“Woah”

As they made their way down he made sure to watch his footing. Didn’t want to just be getting down here only to slip and fall into any lava, man that would suck. No, there was definitely lots of goodies to loot here, probably better stuff than what was above.

“Welcome to the furnace. Try not to fall into any lava or faint from overheating,” Phoebe announced.
“Thanks,” Wulfe grumbled back at her. He looked around taking in the area, ready to ditch this obnoxious female and find some sizable loot. He internally grinned at the thought of what all he could possibly find. He glanced at a marking on the floor that caught his eye and peered curiously at it. It was odd and he couldn’t really make heads or tails of most of it. The only thing that really stood out was the familiar sigil of two courser heads; that and the gosh awful smell. He wrinkled his nose in distaste.

“Does it always smell like someone ate burritos with extra beans?”

Phoebe chuckled, “Yes, it's called sulfur, and you should get used to it if you want to do any exploring down here. But, you learn to ignore it and get used to it after a while.”

“Greaaaat. And I bet I’ll smell like it when I go back”
“Yup”

Wulfe just glared at her. “Well thank you for the companionship”, he drawled sarcastically, “but I think this is where I’ll be on my way.”

Phoebe just huffed.
