Waste of Time
“hhmmmMMHhhMMMmmm” A dark courser trotted down the tunnel humming cheerily to himself. Why was he in such a good mood? Most definitely probably because he had just successfully run off his current pest *cough* guide. They were being a boring nuisance anyway and Wulfe just knew the greedy lil bugger had that shine to his eyes. Wanting more than previously agreed upon, probably planned on swindling him for the whole lot. A few spooks and tricks and the poor courser was stuttering and booking it back the way they came.
“Idiot” He chuckled and carried on his merry way.
So far all he had come across was tunnels and rocks and more rocks, maybe a bat or two. Wulfe sighed in part aggravation and part boredom. Maybe trusting that wack was a bad idea there wasn’t anything remotely interesting or valuable in sight or any foreseeable sight. Maybe turning back would be better, this was a waste of time and maybe he’d have better luck scavenging some above ground and bringing back something vs nothing as he had now. Wulfe gave one final huff and started back. After a bit though he noticed his surroundings weren’t really familiar.
“Is this not the way we came? Oh gosh don’t tell me they got me lost??!!”
Wulfe gnashed his teeth angrily and stomped his foot in frustration.
“Just my luck” he muttered.
After a while more of wandering the faint drip drip of water could be heard. Hoping he was nearring the surface or at least an underground river he could follow up in some way, Wulfe took off towards the sounds. Rounding a bend the tunnel suddenly opened up into a larger corridor. The rocky dirt of the cave made his hooves click on a more hardened stone pathway; inspecting them more closely he noticed these seemed to be more man or unnaturally shaped and placed. Wulfe grinned. Maybe just maybe today was shaping up to be a successful day. Going deeper the walls began to take the same cut stone as the floor and the dripping of water began growing louder. Water touched Wulfe’s hooves with a start and he paused to sniff and inspect. He may be greedy but not stupid. A dead courser has nothing whereas a cautious one may come back with something worthwhile.
“Galatea. Galatea. Galatea. Galatea”
“GAH!!!”
Wulfe scrambled back as a spirit suddenly appeared in front of him.
“Galatea. Galatea. Galatea. Galatea….”
“Who the? I ain’t Galatea you dumb spirit” he huffed.
After the surprise spook he shook off the spirit and gave it a glare.Someone else had mentioned that name recently. Wulfe thought for a moment but couldn’t be bothered to think too deeply on it. Maybe it was something with that harvester fellow that had popped up recently. Wulfe chuckled. Now that was an interesting fellow, a walking talking pumpkin?
He carried on deeper, the spirit had actually lit up the way a bit so he was able to catch a glimpse beyond. Treading carefully he continued on a light slowly growing in front of him. As the water reached his ankles he was able to finally get a good look around. Large towering statues of coursers sat between large imposing archways. The room steepled up and up to a clearly crafted roof, old faded drawings could be faintly made out. Besides the splendor of the intricately crafted statues and walls the most noticeable part of the room was a large water pool. Wulfe couldn’t tell how deep the water was from where he stood but he knew it wasn’t ankle deep much farther out.
“Well this is a pretty room…..now where is the loot”
Wulfe glanced around trying to find something of value but wasn’t really finding much from his current vantage point. Maybe this place was too flooded and all the loot was sunken below. Maybe this was still just a flop. After a few more minutes of observing the room Wulfe gave out a huff and decided to turn back. At the very least he could sell the info of this room to someone. He knew plenty of scholars or nerds would probably be interested in this place for some bleh boring historical crap. So he’d return not exactly with a heaps of loot he was wanting but something none the less he guessed.
