[MEDIUM] Slip and Slide of Doom

The day started like any other, Honeypot had rolled over and nuzzled Sunflower’s head. The dog barked in reply, tongue lolling out as her tail wagged with happiness. Deslizar was close by, snoring away and Honeypot laughed quietly to herself. How she got so lucky she had no idea, but the gods had smiled upon her when she met Deslizar.

As she sat staring at him, he rolled over and slowly opened his eyes, a soft smile on his face when his eyes met hers. “Honey, you do realize we’re late.” His smile faded and was replaced with confusion.

“Late… for what?” She laughed in response, pulling herself up off the bed.

“To meet with our friends. We were supposed to meet them half an hour ago, we’ve got a dungeon to clear.” Deslizar bolted out of bed at the mention of that and grabbed his pack.

“Why didn’t you wake me up sooner??” He rushed to and fro, looking for any items he could grab and shove in the bag at his side. Honeypot reached over and grabbed her own, making sure that her snacks were still in the bag. Sunflower sat beside her, tail wagging in anticipation that the dog would be allowed to come on their adventure.

Leaning down, she nuzzled the dog once more before giving her a gentle smile. She was a good dog, always doing what she was told. She wagged her tail even harder as she was pet and stood up once Honey pulled away. Deslizar was ready to go and let his mate lead the way.

It didn’t take them long to reach their destination, and Honeypot hurried herself along when she saw Ravenna and Dusk standing at the entrance of the dungeon. “Sorry for the wait, we ended up sleeping in longer than intended.”

The puck just shook her head with a smile on her face in response. “No worries, it’ll probably take us a bit to clear this one anyway.” Dusk nodded in agreement, her thoughts elsewhere as she saw Sunflower. The dog always made her want her own, she just never had the opportunity.

Ravenna gave her a slight kick on the rump to get her focus back on what they were doing. They needed to get going before it got too dark, otherwise they’d lose the day. She hung her head and proceeded to follow the group, the dog giving her a small bark as she walked past.

They weren’t sure what to expect, but none of them thought that slimy floors would’ve been waiting for them. One wrong move and Dusk’s hooves were slipping out from under her. Honey wasn’t sure what to do to help, too focused on her own problems. She didn’t want to end up falling over and hurting anyone else, and Deslizar was doing the same.

The only one who didn’t have a care in the world was Sunflower. The dog was sniffing around here and there, and as the others were distracted, found herself on the edge of a quick slope. She reached over to sniff and took a wrong step, letting out a loud yelp as she went over the edge.

Ravenna was the first to follow, managing to grab the dog just before she went too far out of sight. Which didn’t help much since the puck was also going down. Deslizar was next, followed by Honeypot and then Dusk who had managed to get back on her hooves.

Thoughts ran through each courser’s head, Dusk thinking that though it was terrifying, it also seemed kinda fun. At least if you could see what was happening around you, the torches lighting the way just enough. What she didn’t see though was the fact that the torches ended pretty close in front of them, and in front of that was pure darkness.
