[DD1] martzel's destiny
Martzel settled down to rest on a patch of moss in the damp cavern, staring down into the pool of water and watching the swaying of the colorful creatures within. He thought about his quest - why he’d decided to begin adventuring.
He sought the legendary Amulet of Rioora. Its myths were taught to him by his mentor, Kendall the Clever, who learned of them by way of his own dungeon exploits, which still continued to this day and showed no signs of stopping. Kendall wasn’t even that much older than Martzel, all things considered, but nonetheless he was a dungeon prodigy who apparently saw something worth nurturing in Martzel.
The amulet in question had belonged to an ancient princess, and was possessed of powers of some kind, but the myths that Kendall taught Martzel seemed to be in disagreement over what those powers actually were. The only way to find out was to find the thing, and Martzel was determined to do just that.
Why he cared so much about this specific mythic artifact was something even Martzel wasn’t quite sure about yet. Oh yes, there would be great glory in discovering something long lost and mystical, but the Amulet of Rioora was hardly the only long lost and mystical object spoken of in legends.
No, something about this specific amulet spoke to Martzel. He could not explain it. It called to him just as the dungeon itself did. He believed it was his destiny to find it.
A sound interrupted his reverie. Another Courser was approaching this cavern - he heard their hooves tapping the stone. He sighed and got up, not caring to greet the newcomer. It was time to move on.
prompt: The moisture on the cave walls has gathered in the center of this chamber, forming a pool. Harmless, colorful invertebrates wave at you from the bottom. Ah… A peaceful respite. You can check your equipment and gather your thoughts here.
