[DD3] Strohmeier - DD #7-3
Crispin proceeded to lead Strohmeier back down from the collapsed tower where they had laid their gazes upon the barren battlefield. The gray dunskin led him to an open area, where a small pool of water formed as they two coursers approached.
Crispin nodded towards it, as if demanding Strohmeier to walk closer, which the bright eyed black courser did without really questioning his demand.
Strohmeier looked down into the pool, which seemingly was a mirror to the past. He witnessed himself, as if he was in a third person view, an out of body experience, looking towards an active battle. He looked up briefly, it was without a doubt the same desolate field they were just overlooking. He looked back down into the pool, cries of war could be heard and a full blown battle was in front of him. Strohmeier flinched as an incoming attack came towards him, but it just passed right through him, cutting another soldier down. His heart was beating fast, it felt as if he was genuinely in danger despite not actually being in a real battlefield. He knew it wasn't real, but it sure felt like it.
He was almost in shock at all the fighting, the bloodshed. The overwhelming screams of rage and pain, the cries of those who lost comrades. He could even feel the strong smell of blood, charred grass and fire. It smelled so strong that his nose hurt, yet when he looked up from the pool, it all disappeared. He was confused, but intrigued to see more.
“What is this thing? Why can I smell and hear everything from the war?” he asked as he looked at Crispin.
“We do not know for sure how this thing works. All we know is that it is harmless, but gives us a greater knowledge of the past. It was a rough time for sure, and I am sure there is much we could learn from it.” he replied with a somewhat somber tone. “There is obviously nothing we can do for those we see here, but we can hopefully prevent this from ever happening again.” he added as he looked out over the field.
Strohmeier followed Crispin’s gaze, in the distance he could see a lost soul wander, pleading for help. Confused and scared, not understanding where it was or why it was alone. Strohmeier's chest felt tight as sadness washed over him. He wanted to help, but there was nothing he could do.
“I.. I need a moment..” Strohmeier sighed out and stepped away for a bit to clear his mind. This was all extremely overwhelming for the dark courser.
Crispin followed him, but kept a respectable distance. He was still responsible for him, after all, but understood that what he had seen could have been a bit too much. After a moment of silence and some calming breathing exercises later Strohmeier turned back towards Crispin.
“Do you wish to return?” the gray dunskin asked, but to his surprise Strohmeier shook his head.
“I'm okay now. I can go on.” Strohmeier assured him. “I'll be okay.”
