[DD3] The Sleep of the Dead
As his eyes blinked open, Edrusi had noticed that the two weren’t on the battlefield anymore. He didn’t know how Logue had managed to carry him further into the dungeon, but by the gods the other courser had managed it and it made the courser a little uncomfortable. The stallion also noticed that he was laying in a makeshift bed of cloth. It seemed his companion knew how to do more than he let on and that made Edrusi uncomfortable.
The aforementioned courser was currently looking at the ether stallion and he shifted awkwardly in his bed. “Thank you.” Logue nodded his head in response, tinkering with something he had found somewhere. Edrusi hadn’t seen it in the room before anyway.
“Did anything… happen while I was out?” He had hoped that it had been an easy trip for them but he had a feeling it wasn’t.
“Yea, you wouldn’t stop mumbling in your sleep about something not being there that should’ve been. Did you lose something?” Logue tilted his head in curiosity as his eyes met the white ones of the other.
Edrusi squinted back at him for a split second before the memory of his dream hit him like a brick.
It was dark, the only light in front of him a dim candle. He squinted and tried to see further into the darkness, but it was no use. The candle sat upon a candle holder, a handle shining in the candlelight.
He reached to grab it, and a shudder ran down his spine as the flame flickered for a moment before stilling again. Eyes resting on the flame a beat longer, he grabbed the handle and lifted his head. Something about this place felt unfamiliar, unsafe. Edrusi felt like something was amiss and he decided to continue forward.
Bringing the candle towards what he thought was the walls, Edrusi let out a gasp when he realized there was nothing but open spaces beside him. He brought the candle down towards his hooves and he squinted against the darkness. There was… nothing beside him. The path he was walking seemingly disappeared into the void beside him. Was it like this on the other side as well?
He moved to check and felt another shiver down his spine when he realized just how narrow the path was. It could fit him but no one else, no one else would be able to walk beside him if he needed help. Why was it like this? Why was it so dark? What waited for him on the other side?
Edrusi turned to look at the table he had grabbed the candle from and felt nervous when he noticed the table was no longer there. Where was he??
Before he could get his answer a shrill screech could be heard echoing somewhere in the… wherever he was. It sounded almost bird-like and that made him feel even worse, as beady white eyes could be seen in the darkness further up. The courser caught them for a split second before they vanished and he took off after them, not caring about the long drop into the abyss anymore. He needed to find something, anything in this pitch black room, and that was the only thing that he had seen besides the candle he was holding.
It didn’t take very long before the eyes popped up again, though they seemed further away this time. He pushed himself harder, his hooves hitting the ground as fast as they could. Edrusi needed to figure out what was there with him and if it was friendly. There was no way it wouldn’t be friendly, right?
The courser soon found out that he was very wrong and before he could blink he was falling into the darkness below, a silent scream escaping his mouth.
He stared for a moment at Logue before answering. “Yea, my life.”
