[DD3] Strohmeier - DD #7-2
The odd looking pair made their way deeper through the moor. Ahead of them laid ruins, a desolate battlefield where great battles and wars once took place. Even from a distance it was a powerful sight to behold.
“Come on, I would like to show you something.” Crispin said to Strohmeier, who was slightly stunned by the view. He shook his whole body to chase away the creeping feeling of dread that snuck up as he watched the ghostly fields and followed along to where Crispin was guiding him.
The gray dunskin was leading him towards a ruin of a once great building, a tower. The two of them climbed it together, and when they reached the top they were greeted with a much better view of the open, desolate field below.
“Everyone knows about the great wars of the past. But few dare lay eyes on where it all took place.” Crispin said as he looked out towards the once beautiful and vast grassland, now burnt and full of relics from the past. It had become a graveyard many decades ago, but he still liked to imagine the fields would regain life and become green again some day.
Strohmeier didn't know what to say at first. He knew about the wars, he had heard as well as read about them, but seeing the field of a graveyard hit him differently than he had expected. He felt sadness, anger, despair. He wasn't even sure if it was his own feelings he felt, or if it was the remnants of the spirits from all the ones who perished in the great war.
He looked over at the pale courser with a lump in his throat, making it hard to utter even a single word. He cleared his throat in an attempt to get words out, which caught Crispin’s attention.
“It is rather overwhelming, is it not?” Crispin asked Strohmeier, who could only nod in agreement at first.
“I swear I can feel the pain and agony of that field. Of the lingering spirits who have not been laid to rest.” Strohmeier eventually managed to reply, and Crispin gave him a nod in agreement.
“It's a terrible sight to behold. Their wartorn spirits have not been able to move on and some even roam these fields, looking for an answer. Some hostile, others not so much. But it is always best to stay away, best not to take any chances. You never know who you will encounter.”
Strohmeier understood well enough what the more experienced courser was telling him. He had met with enough undead to know that messing with anything who should not be alive on this earth was a bad idea. The risk of them being vengeful was too great.
“If you think you can take it, I have something else to show you.” Crispin said, once again looking out over the barren graveyard. Strohmeier had to think for a bit, this view alone was a lot to take in.
“I think I would be able to. I want to learn more about this place, even if it's painful.” the dark courser replied, somewhat reluctantly. He did want to know more. But would it cost him anything in the long run?
“Very well. Follow me then.” the gray dunskin said as he started to climb back down, and Strohmeier was quick to follow.
