[DD3] in your nature
Hoof-steps echoed as Terrence and Satin entered into a large cavern. It was dark and empty, aside from time-worn rubble dotting the expanse. A steady drip sounded throughout the cave, the air smelled damp.
The two split up, with Terrence wandering off to search the nearby crumbled ruins of battalions, and Satin approaching a large pond that blocked the way further in. As she drew closer, she was relieved to find that the pond was shallow. They could easily walk through it without getting their hocks wet.
A drip fell from the ceiling, rippling the surface of the pond. A few seconds passed, and it was still. Satin peered in. The surface was as reflective as a mirror. She could see wisps of colorful banners and reaching polearms. It was the cavern as it once was, alive with war. Satin gasped softly, she had never seen anything like it.
Her reflection stared back, but she looked different. She was stronger, more war-worn, and covered in tack. Her eyes were darker, more powerful.
It was amazing to think that the damp, crumbling cavern they were in was once thrumming with war. Satin looked around, trying to picture it.
A clanging echoed as Terrence knocked over a rusty polearm.
“Must have been a battle here once!” He called as he kicked it to the side. “Can’t find anything valuable they left behind though. How about you?”
Satin looked back down at her reflection. It was normal once again, showing her tired eyes and the mossy cavern ceiling above her.
“Nothing. Let’s continue.”
The visuals stuck in the back of Satin’s mind for the rest of the delve. Her heart beat rapidly as she thought of herself tacked up, heading into battle. It was her nature, she felt drawn to it. This must have been the feeling her father was chasing every time he came down here. A pang of sadness spread through her chest. Maybe she understood his reasons, after all.
A shallow pond sprawls out like a mirror in front of you. When you approach, the reflection shows flying banners, marching polearms and tents – not the silent battlefield you stand in. Do you dare look at your own reflection amidst the thrum of war?
