Foals are fragile creatures, but their prey nature made them all the while equally resilient as far as a child may be deemed to be. As soon as they're born, they're capable of getting up onto their own two feet within minutes, and within minutes more they are capable of all the running and jumping and such that a child would be happy to do, of course- not without the risk of falling on wobbly untrained legs. Being able to run, as a prey creature and a young one at that- is a very valuable quality to have in order to preserve one's own life.

And a very valuable trait to possess, when the first thing eyes of blue gaze at for the first time their lids part… is the depths of the dungeon.

Being born in the darkness proved to be no exception to this rule, as soon the nameless blood born foal was up, and gentle steps resonated with the chambers as they quietly left their 'birthplace'. Unknowing of anything, simple curiosity, a will to survive, and a strong calling- pulled them forward, leaving behind the reminisce of what would once be parents whos corpses would never be found.

Trailing further into the dungeon based on instinct alone, the foal's head hung low and ears flicked back out of uncertainty and caution. As she left the chamber she came to wake in, the ambience became louder with every step further from the room. From exquisite and elegant, tall, yet old pillars which held up a magnificently built room where bricks lined the walls and marble sat under their hooves, to rugged walls and stalactite ceilings. The small streams that trickled down the edge of the cave walls seemed to glow as she followed its flow, the only source of illumination thus far as she continued onwards.

Gentle dripping echoed all around, slow ones in the distance falling gently from the ceiling spikes, and quick ones running down the walls nearby quick to join the small stream that persisted on. The foal rose her head slightly to get a better look around and in that exact moment tripped and fell with her chin connecting to the ground in a gentle thud.

— “AhK-”

She gritted her teeth for a moment, before letting a soft whimper leave her vocals as she pushed herself back up. Looking down at her hoof and the source of her folly- a vine stood in its wake covered in shrooms and caps, almost convulsing and pulsating.

Though, the bloodborn- fresh out of life didnt even know what she was looking at. Her head tilted at it for a few moments before she got bored of staring and continued onwards. The further she walked, the more vines and shrooms would begin to appear, covering the walls and flooring. She was doing her best to dodge them, now focusing more on her feet than the path ahead of her to the point where her lack of attentiveness had her bumping into something and falling back flat on her hide. Falling down, again. She was quickly growing tired of this

Sitting surprised, she swung her head upwards to meet the gaze of-

     A pause.
                  Of… ??

The monochromatic foal stood slowly, her head lowered and tilted at the creature before her full of confusion and curiosity in her expression. Her head rose, she stepped to the side, she rose a hoof- and soon she came to understand and notice that the creature before her seemed to be doing the exact same thing. The foal continued, soon making simple movements into complicated ones, finding a smile on her face as she jumped and hopped and played around with the creature before her- even if the creature was an amalgamation of vines, roots, and fungi.

— “Youre like me ! Arent you?”
Eventually the foal mused.

The growths mouth moved in a similar way, but no cognitive words left its ‘mouth’. Slowing her movements, she approached and the growth closed the gap in the same motion. Inspecting each other for a while, she continued to speak at the fungi that stared at her at the same level and moved its mouth in the same manner. They ‘played’ together, running in circles and jumping back and forth, movements mirrored almost perfectly made for great fun of the foal, until all that effort…. Made her incredibly tired.

Approaching the creature and settling down now, it did the same and she found herself with a companion for the time being, comforted by another ‘living’ presence in the depths of the dungeons. She rested her head on its flank, and it did the same with her, and soon enough- she was asleep.

The fungal growths' eyes did not close, focused on the foal now sitting amongst itself, its roots stretched and grew over her slowly- intent on keeping her with them.

❝You’ve heard that the dungeon’s fungi are connected to one another in a system resembling a brain, even resulting in something like intelligence. You experience this for yourself when a fungal growth in the shape of a Courser meets you at the end of a tunnel – but not just any Courser. You. It seems to be mirroring your movements. How do you proceed?❞
