[DD1] a keen eye
This room was booby-trapped, Blight could just tell. There was something off about how quiet it was in here. The tinkling stream on the other side of the room was the only real attraction, but it would be enough for a weary traveller to head towards in their time of need. That would be a potentially fatal mistake, and Blight wasn’t keen on making those.
His eyes scanned the room, their glint hidden in the depths of his hood. Trip-wires were harder to conceal than most other traps; very few non-magical materials were thin enough to not be seen by the naked eye, but the jungle bushes made them easier to hide. He moved forward cautiously, wary of an ambush from above.
The eye followed behind, as it sometimes did when it could tell he was looking for something specific. It was a good companion to have when he needed to be alerted of other beings, but it hadn’t yet learned to identify every trap a Courser, or other dungeon-dwelling creatures, could put together.
Ah. There it was.
A keen eye did a good thief make, Blight thought to himself. It was obvious now where the edges of the pit were; despite the clear effort to hide the hole from passerby, the latticework supporting the leaves had begun to sag in the middle, and thus the edges of the lattice itself had begun to lift off the ground. Plus, the leaves covering the pit were all dead, rather than having various bits of green pushing through the rot.
Nice try, Blight thought. But not this time.
