[HARD] Back to the Beginning PT 5
They managed to escape the room before before the skull could reach them and ended up barreling down a narrow and very dark passage way. When they burst out into an area of light it was a very large cavern with a high ceiling. It was light up by bioluminescent plants.
"This area does not look safe at all," Samantha muttered.
Ravin looked around at the eerie landscape and could only agree with her. It was as if these plants had completely taken over the area here, and it had a sort of feel to it as if it was some sort of living entity.
Of course all plants are alive, he thought himself wryly. However this was different to the average flora. It felt innately creepy.
"Let's quickly find out way out of here," Samantha added.
Edos was breathing heavily and it was clear that all of them were exhausted from the mad dash and this was definitely not the place to rest. The thick pollen in the air seemed to be negatively affecting Edos.
"Flynn sees a way out, we should go quickly, now is not the time to investigate," Flynn declared.
He was unusually forceful but he had made the right call. Edos showed by his actions that he was in agreement, heading over in the direction that Flynn had indicated.
They all followed behind him in a close formation.
This passage was short and they soon ended back up in a location familiar to Ravin and Flynn after a few twists and turns.
"This is very near to where the skull suddenly appeared!" Ravin exclaimed.
"We won't be safe here," Samantha complained.
"It's near but still a ways off," Ravin clarified, "we can scout for a safer location to rest."
"I'll do it," Samantha said as soon as Ravin finished speaking.
"Flynn will go with you, Ravin take cake of Edos," Flynn directed.
"Will do!"
Edos was still quiet and Ravin was so worried that he went over to him and pressed their necks together. Edos' body felt warmer than usual and his breathing was still quite pronounced.
Ravin got a flask out of his pack and held it up carefully to that Edos could drink out of it.
Edos though stubbornly keep his lips closed.
"Drink some water," he mumbled around the flask and Edos' eye sparkled with amusement and finally gave in and took in some water.
After that Ravin feed him a dried ration.
"You're lucky you're technically a patient or I would kick your ass!" Ravin griped.
Edos smirked at him and tilted his head to the side as if to say 'Oh really'?.
Ravin gave him as fierce a look as he could muster.
"Yes, really! Drinking water was for you own good!" Ravin fretted.
Edos bumped their noses together as if asking Ravin to calm done. For a moment Ravin was feeling as if it had the opposite effect but gradually his ire faded away and the concern and worry came back.
"Hopefully we can get out of this place soon."
"I intended to kill that skull," Edos informed him.
It was the first words he had spoken in over thirty minutes and they were a declaration of violence.
"Once it doesn't regenerate we should be able too," Ravin reasoned.
He hoped he sounded more confident about that than he felt. He couldn't believe they had taken off the creature's jaw and it was still tenaciously trying to kill them.
Ruin had gone off with Flynn and Samantha but the crow came flying back with a berry in it's beak. It dropped the berry in front of Edos and then hopped up and down.
"I think he wants you to eat it," Ravin translated.
"Eat, eat! Feel better!" Ruin crowed and then he hopped up and down again.
"Did Samantha send it?" Ravin guessed.
Ruin chirped but didn't say anything else in courser language.
Edos didn't deliberate and seemed not to share Ravin's worry about it being potentially poisonous. He ate it with a couple chews, swallowing it down.
"Thank you Ruin."
The crow looked pleased and then launched itself up into the air, landing neatly on Ravin's back.
"Back to your favorite spot I see," Ravin commented.
Ruin squawked in a lively manor and then quietened.
"I bet he'll be asleep in no time."
Edos chuckled and nodded his head slightly to show that he agreed with him.
They lapsed into silence and Edos seem to doze of a bit and Ravin let him. He wondered if it was the effect of the berry, it so though it was inconvenient for fighting, it was handy because Edos' breathing sounded a lot better.
Ravin was unsure of how much time passed, but eventually Flynn came back and Edos woke up the instant he did showing the the warrior in him was still active.
Flynn lead the two of then over to the camp site that they had found. It was a quiet nook with a surprisingly clear stream ambling past. They had limited supplies since they had set up camp before and been interrupted but they still managed to cobble together a meal.
"I'll take the first watch," Ravin volunteered.
"I'll go next, then Flynn, Edos can skip watches, he needs a full rest," Samantha decided.
Edos continued to go along with their arrangements so the watch duties were set up just like this.
"When we get up, Edos wants to find the skull and finish him off," Ravin declared.
Flynn and Samantha exchanged a look and then they both nodded.
"Flynn is ready!"
"I'm game. That bastard needs to die!" Samantha jeered.
Ravin was unsurprised that they were on board. It seemed their fate was set - either they would take the skull down or suffer the consequences.
