[DD1] The Call

Pandora had been running the dungeons for almost as long as she could remember. It was in the marrow of her very bones.

She'd been born to the wilds, originally: the 'furthest' one could get from what lay beneath. Her parents had never set foot into a dungeon, instead they'd ignored their own calls their entire lives. Perhaps, that's why Pandora could not be kept from the depths: no matter how hard they tried to tie her down in her youth. Her parents end goal was ultimately to protect themselves - and their daughter - from the dangers, and live a simple, peaceful life. They had always been the overly optimistic types. The minute Pandora showed signs of hearing the call, they pulled her further into the unknown and kept her away from major entrances. They must have thought that by lack of exposure they could protect their daughter from the 'horrors' below. But the dungeon, as all fantastical things, had a mind of its own.

Pan couldn't have been all that old on her first dive, technically still a child.

It felt like one of her earliest memories, one of the strongest ones she could still clearly summon to this day- nearly as bright and vivid as the day before her. The call had been strong, and a rather young Pandora had found that the ground simply opened up for her one day. She followed the ruins down, down, down... and it took three whole days for her parents to locate her. But instead of a terrified, frightened child.. they found a determined, dirty little beast whacking a small slime with a stick. After that first taste of adventure? Pan was hooked, well and truly. Nearly every night she snuck out to the dungeons, getting caught by her parents nearly half the time and getting dragged back home. But those nights she made it below? Those were the ones she felt truly alive.

By the time Pandora was a young adult, she was doing solo week-long runs through the dungeons. Half the time she was not even collecting the treasures she found, simply exploring and mapping out locations that other coursers didn't dare attempt to discover alone. She'd come back, of course, for the loot at a later date. If she remembered. But it was the thrill of discovery that really seemed to pull her in and keep her there for days at a time. The mystery, the whimsy, the knowledge... Nothing beat it. It wasn't uncommon for Pandora to venture off to another entrance and spend the better part of a moon learning its routes and roads, engaging with other coursers and guilds. Knowledge of the land and dungeon itself was important, after all, and socializing was good for staving off the Crazies.

Is this your first time in the dungeon, or are you a veteran of the Courser’s calling? When and why did you decide to answer the call of the depths?
